Data Storage Systems and Solid-state Drives

Data Storage Systems and Solid-state Drives

Data Storage, Networks, and Processing  Research Laboratory was founded in 2008 in the computer engineering department at Sharif University of Technology  by Prof. Hossein Asadi. This research laboratory is the first in the field of data storage in the Middle East. The main activities of this laboratory are on midrange  data storage systems, commercial storage, storage devices including hard disks and solid state drives, , high-performance I/O design, reliability and availability of data storage systems, as well as reconfiguration applications in data storage systems and hardware boards. Since 2018, more than 35 BS/MS students and 5 PhD students have graduated from this lab. Since the founding of  this laboratory, in addition to publishing numerous research  papers  in prestigious international conferences and journals, , several laboratory and semi-industrial tools have also been designed and implemented in this laboratory .

  • Design and implementation of high-speed storage subsystems in storage servers
  • Design and implementation of data classification system
  • Architectural design of midrange  storage systems
  • Reliability and availability analysis of data storage subsystems
  • Design and implementation of simulator of data storage systems
  • Formulation of a proposed plan for the construction of a prototype of a medium-sized data storage system
  • Estimation of the existing market of data storage systems
  • Evaluation and study of medium size data storage systems, features and specifications of components
  • Investigating the parameters of medium-sized data storage systems from a quantitative and qualitative point of view
  • Designing quantitative microarchitectural parameters of storage systems
  • Review and analysis of communication protocols (such as  SCSI, iSCSI, FC, NFS, etc.)  and their features, configuration and required standards of data storage systems
  • Examining the types of architectures and designs of storage systems of large manufacturing companies
  • Compilation of detailed specifications and features of the data storage system design product
  • Designing system tests to test storage system components from a logical point of view and measure response time, throughput, reliability and availability
